A round-up of interesting reads from the last month and a look ahead to events this week
We’re moving towards a more regular ‘cycle’ of Fair Comment newsletters, based around a four-week pattern (OK, this is never going to survive contact with reality, but we’ll aim for something like it). In each four-week period we will publish one of the following on a Monday:
A round-up of interesting and relevant events, reports, polls and so on
An original essay or thinkpiece on a specific issue
A summary of a report or other output that we have published
An article by (or interview with) someone else

Towards the Manifestos
The report from the Towards the Manifestos conference in Parliament on 6 July has now been published, with thanks to colleagues from the Policy Institute at King’s College London. You can read it here. In the meantime we are continuing to work with the Policy Institute and the APPG on Inclusive Growth on future outputs and events from this programme of work. The next of these are events at party conferences; the first is taking place tomorrow at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester, in case you’re going to be in town:
Fair Society events
Meanwhile, our series of online Fair Society events with the Policy Institute at King’s College London continues this Thursday lunchtime with an interview with Mark Carney, former Governor of the Bank of England. In his recent book Value(s): Building a Better World for All, Carney argues that fundamental problems – such as growing inequality in income and opportunity, mistrust of experts, and the existential threat of climate change – all stem from a common crisis in values. Carney will discuss his vision for a fairer and more humane society with Nick Macpherson, former Permanent Secretary to the Treasury and Policy Institute Visiting Professor with the Strand Group.
