Politicians from all parties admit that Britain's social contract is broken; we need to rebuild it if we want a stronger economy and a healthier society
Government has failed to deal with unfair treatment by recognised bodies and organisations. A few of examples are as follows:-
Unfair car insurance deals for young drivers some of which actually are traps with heavy financial penalties/fines. What future is there for our youngsters.
DVLA unfair rules where if MOT expires or insurance runs out one must declare SORN, if not done £80 penalty is issued.
If and when SORN is declared car road tax is cancelled automatically where one has to renew and loose upto a month’s road tax. It will be fair to calculate on daily basis.
Car parking where penalties are issued. Many believe that these are not fines but a legal exploitation to make huge amounts of money.
I'm intrigued by the talk in the past decade about the social contract - to which I've just been alerted.
Have you seen this recent (French) report https://www.iddri.org/sites/default/files/PDF/Publications/Catalogue%20Iddri/Rapport/202406-report-social%20contract_0.pdf which tells an interesting story about the development of the phrase in the last couple of centuries in both the UK and France?
Thanks Ronald - not seen - looks interesting. Best, Will
